Hello,

Attempting to get scExcel working. This is the evaluation version of the scExcelFull1.0-1B1_Professional for 32bit and 64bit versions of R and Excel. I get the above error when clicking the "Connect" button present in the scExcel ribbon. It is not apparent how to install a license file (evaluation license was provided with email from autstat rep), and the "Info" button only shows that no version of R is connected. I am reading that R must be running and rcom must be loaded, but there I have R running right now and I am unsure about how to load rcom. It seems like a licensing issue (as I cannot seem to figure out how to activate the license), but I would appreciate some help getting this to work. Thank you.

Dear Tierney,

at the end of the installation process, the autstat setup maintenance tool is started automatically. This tool is used to install the license file.

To start it manually, please use Windows Explorer and navigate to the following folder:

c:\Program Files (x86)\autstat\Excel\statconnDCOM\i386\bin

where c:\Program Files (x86)\autstat\Excel is the installation directory for scExcel.

There look for a program called statconnRSetupTest.exe, right click with your mouse and choose "Run as Administrator"

In the application, choose "Analyze System", then press "Start". The window should show something like

Application is run as Administrator
R 32 Bit: 32bit version installed in <C:\Program Files\R\R-3.5.0>, current version <3.5.0 >
R 64 Bit: 64bit version installed in <C:\Program Files\R\R-3.5.0>, current version <3.5.0 >
Package <rscproxy> for 32 Bit R, version <2.2-3>, installed in <C:/Program Files/R/R-3.5.0/library> was built for R version <3.5.0> - OK
Package <rcom> for 32 Bit R, version <3.1-5>, installed in <C:/Program Files/R/R-3.5.0/library> was built for R version <3.5.0> - OK
Package <rscproxy> for 64 Bit R, version <2.2-3>, installed in <C:/Program Files/R/R-3.5.0/library> was built for R version <3.5.0> - OK
Package <rcom> for 64 Bit R, version <3.1-5>, installed in <C:/Program Files/R/R-3.5.0/library> was built for R version <3.5.0> - OK
statconnDCOM 32 Bit: 32bit version installed in <C:\Program Files (x86)\autstat\Excel\statconnDCOM\i386>, current version <3.6-1B3>
statconnDCOM 64 Bit: not found

If R is not installed, please do so.

If rscproxy and/or rcom are not installed correctly, please use the drop down and choose "Install required R packages", then click "Start". This will install the packages as required by scExcel into your active R installation.

Next, choose "Install License File" and click "Start". This will allow you to select the license file provided to you and install it.

After installing the license file, choose "Test statconnDCOM Installation" and click "Start". Enter "SExcel4" in the drop down text field and click "OK". The window should show something like

--- testing R connection with StatConnectorSrv.StatConnector32
create R object
establishing R connection using license key SExcel4
closing R connection
--- testing R connection with StatConnectorSrv.StatConnector32
create R object
establishing R connection using license key SExcel4
closing R connection
--- testing R connection with RCOMServerLib.StatConnector
create R object
Error code 0x80040154: unknown error code

The last one is an error while testing the foreground server.

To use the foreground server in scExcel, start R and load the package rcom.

Please let us know if things are working now.

Best wishes,
Thomas

After running the "Test statconnDCOM Installation" and entering "SExcel4" in the text field, I get the below code:

iconCode:
--- testing R connection with StatConnectorSrv.StatConnector32
  create R object
establishing R connection using license key SExcel4
Error code 0x80040030: licensing: invalid license file
--- testing R connection with StatConnectorSrv.StatConnector32
  create R object
establishing R connection using license key SExcel4
Error code 0x80040030: licensing: invalid license file
--- testing R connection with RCOMServerLib.StatConnector
  create R object
Error code 0x80040154: unknown error code

Looks like the eval license key is invalid. Is there a way to bypass this without getting a new license file, or will you have to provide a new one? Thank you, I look forward to hearing back from you soon.

Please run "Analyze System" from the maintenance tool and post the results here.

Next open Windows Explorer and navigate to the folder where statconnDCOM (x86/i386) is installed. Please provide a list of files in this folder (should not be more than 4 or 5).

Thanks. It is clear, that the license file definitely has not been installed.
Please install the license file as advised before using the Setup Maintenance Tool:

Next, choose "Install License File" and click "Start". This will allow you to select the license file provided to you and install it.

Please provide detailed results. After installation, please check again the files found in C:\Program Files (x86)\autstat\Excel\statconnDCOM\i386

Thanks,
Thomas

I just followed your steps exactly. This was the output in the console after installing the license file:

iconCode:
Analyzing license file <C:\Users\tloughran\Desktop\353_SExcel3_Eval_x86_x64_190312.lic>
license file with id <353> for product <SExcel4>, created 2/21/2019 5:35:00 PM
updates allowed until 3/12/2019 11:00:00 PM (3/12/2019 11:00:00 PM)
user information missing
supports 32 bit R: True, supports 64 bit R True
professional: True, floating/concurrent: False, server: False
number of licenses: 2

The list of files in the path C:\Program Files (x86)\autstat\Excel\statconnDCOM\i386\bin and C:\Program Files (x86)\autstat\Excel\statconnDCOM\i386\ remain unchanged, and I am still presented with the same error that I got originally when trying to use the scExcel addin. Is there something else we can try?

I look forward to hearing back from you soon.

Dear Tierney,

just tried to reproduce the problem. This is a bug in the license file. Just sent you a new one (with an extended evaluation period).

You should see in the console that the license file has been installed (including the path).

Please provide feedback if the new file works for you. Sorry for the inconveniences.

Best regards,
Thomas
