Hello,

I registered because I thought there is a download page specifically for registered users where I can download StatconnDCOM 3.6-0B8 as it is not available on the "regular download page. Unfortunately after logging in I experience the same problems as on the regular download page. There is either no download link or the links lead nowhere. CAn somebody please tell me how I can download the files?

Thanks,

Robert

Robert,

the download page says:

"Please note, that you will only be able to download if you have suitable permissions to run statconnDCOM Professional or statconnDCOM Server edition."

You can use the contact form to ask for help if you think you should have access to this software.

Best regards,
Thomas

Well, actually my Problem is to get RExcel up and running. I installed the newest Version of R and RExcel. I use Office 2010 32-bit on a Win7 64-bit machine. When trying to start RExcel or use the check Server command RExcel throws out an error message "There seems to be no R process connected to Excel". Doing a Little Research on the net I found that this error is caused by a file called sctools.dll. And it also said that the new Version of statconnDCom (0B8) would solve the Problem. That is why I asked as to where I can download the file. If there are other Solutions to get rid of that error I'd be fine with those.

Thanks,

Robert

Robert,

I wpuld recommend to install and use scExcel, which is the successor to RExcel. You can find it in the download area at www.autstat.com.

I understand. So I would uninstall RExcel und maybe also uninstall R. Then re-install R (I Need the 32-bit Version for Office 2010 32-bit, right)and install scExcel and afterwards use the test tool if everything is configured right?

This package works the same way as RExcel?

Thanks,

Robert,

please uninstall RExcel. Then use the scExcel Home&Student installer, which should do most things automatically for you. The setup test/maintenance tool can be used to install missing R packages if required.

scExcel is not 100% compatible with RExcel. The VBA project reference is called scExcel (and not RExcelVBALib) and there is the need to once initialize the RInterface object to use VBA.

Please post to the forum if you need help.

Best wishes,
Thomas

Hi,

it's been a while since I posted here. I'm coming back to the recommendation for using scExcel. This is not a suitable option for us at this time. We have a running infrastructure of R, StatconnDCOM,and RExcel on a 32-bit machine with a 32-bit Office.

We need to switch to 64-bit machine that uses a 32-bit Office (this is decided by a higher department). While I do have several older files of R, StatconnDCOM and RExcel stored I need to know which versions of the files are to be used in this environment. We cannot just switch to scExcel as we use another Excel Add-In in conjunction with RExcel and we are not sure if it would work if we switched.

Cheers,

Robert

Robert,

I'm not sure, I understand your question.

If you want to ensure, that scExcel works in your environment, it is highly recommended that you test it. If not, please let me know.

You can also contact me directly via E-mail if you think you have specific problems that should not be discussed in the public.

Thomas

Well, what I'm trying to say is, that using scExcel is not an option at this point.

I have a working infrastructure on a 32-bit windows using a 32-bit office. That PC is going to be sorted out. For the students to keep working with the same setup I need to get that same infrastructure working on a 64-bit windows with a 32-bit office. The students also use another office add-in that corresponds with RExcel.

I did not setup the original infrastructure and also do not have all setup files but some. So trying to install everything on the new PC causes some errors and I am not sure about the reason. Is it different Versions that do not correspond with each other? Is it the fact that a 32-bit office runs on a 64-bit windows? I don't know. I do not know enough about that software nor am I a programmer. So I need to know which versions of each program I should use for that environment to run properly, if it works at all, and if I don't have specific versions, where I could get them.

Thanks,

Robert

OK, I understand.

Two options: if you have correctly licensed (purchased) the software, contact the software vendor.

If you did not, you should at least check if you are conforming to the software license for RExcel for the current setup. There is definitely no way to download the software now without prior having purchased it and if you can find a way, you will be violating the software license for the components.

Sorry, but changing the other addin and switching to scExcel might still be the best solution.

My personal view: any invest in RExcel is a dead end...

First up, I do not think that we are violating any software licenes. We are a university and we do not use the statconn/RExcel setup commercially. We also did not pick up files from the internet. All files we have are older files that we downloaded from the official sources.

Speaking of license files. Did they come with the respective software or are they subject to be implemented in the software folders seperately?

Having said that and reading your comment on scExcel. This might be an option to switch to at a later date. As I understand that there will be some tweaking involved in order to substitute scExcel for RExcel the question would be if it would be easier to implement scExcel into the infrastructure and get it to work the way RExcel works now.

One way or the other if I was able to get the current setup to work on that 64-bit machine would help us for the time being until we get the setup running with scEXcel.

It would therefore be of massive help if you could tell me if a 32-bit infrastructure of R/StatConnDCOM/RExcel would run on a 64-bit machine running a 32-bit office. And if I could get some hints on what to consider to get a running system that would be nice.

Thanks,

Robert

Robert,

I am sure you checked the software licenses for the components. So it is up to you to decide whether you are conforming with the software licenses.

Which license files do you mean? As far as I know there are text files provided with RExcel which describe the license terms. And there are license files which typically are provided to you when you are purchasing the software. These are required to run the software.

I cannot tell you if you can install RExcel Home&Student edition on your new computer(s) or not, in my opinion, this will not work. But this is not a problem of a 64 Bit computer or 64 Bit OS.
